macaron baking mat

i tried making french macarons once and horrible failed.  one of my worst baking adventures ever!  anyone have any tips?  i want to master them.  wondering if this bakng mat will help?  i try to not buy too many kitchen gadgets, just the basics.  but would this be worth it?

january always feels like the best time to do some organizing.  i loved these tips from sous style.

Explain to me your “bag within a bag” system—it’s genius.
I carry a clutch-size bag inside my purse or handbag. This way I don’t have things floating around in the bottom of my purse, and I’m not rummaging around looking for makeup, or a pen, or whatever. This is revelatory. It is so easy to then switch out purses and you also have a casual clutch option for the night at the same time. I like the soft, structured leather of the zippered Comme des Garçons, Baggu or American Apparel bags. I also now finally figured out to carry one for receipts instead of overloading my wallet.

i mentioned in this post i love "best of" lists.  i also love highlight reels.  so i decided to make my own highlight reel for 2011.  it was my first time using imovie, and there's always room for improvement but it was surprisingly easy and i can't wait to make more videos!

yesterday morning seattle woke up to a winter wonderland.  it was the perfect day for enjoying a large cup of coffee.

a lovely martini at my favorite neighborhood restaurant, serafina.

and i love how the snowy weather brought everyone outside for a late-night sledding adventure!

we'll see if i continue to enjoy the snow tomorrow!  i'm already starting a list of things i need to do!
