last week on bastille day i really felt like celebrating so i baked a little cake. nothing traditionally french but it incorporated the red and blue from the french flag so that's semi-french, right?
i frosted the cake with one of my favorites, brown sugar frosting. then topped the cake with strawberries and blueberries. it kind of tasted like my favorite childhood dessert - strawberries dipped in sour cream and rolled in brown sugar.
here's the recipe i drafted my brown sugar frosting from. my recipes is:
5 tbls unsalted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
3 tbls milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
in a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and brown sugar together. add the milk and vanilla, mix till combine. slowly add the confectioners' sugar and mix till smooth. frost on top of your cake and arrange the strawberries and blueberries.
a photo taken with the instagram app. looks 100 years old!
