i don't consider myself a makeup expert by any means. {i get most of my makeup selections from my dear friends avery, lyndsy and another lindsey who works for benefit.} so this post is really for my girlfriends who were asking about my makeup for this wedding. they were curious about my goodies. here's what i use:
face:
- start with a clean face and apply laura mercier's illuminating tinted moisturizer. this will even out your face and give your skin a little glow.
- set with laura mercier's mineral powder with spf 15.
- if you have any trouble areas or under-eye dark spots, conceal with benefit's boi-ing.
- bronze your cheeks with nars bronzing powder. apply to one side of your face, then the other. add a little starting with your forehead, sweeping along the side by your temple, go in at your cheeks and back out along the jaw line. the motion looks like your making the number '3' on each side of your face.
- blush your cheeks with tarte's cheek stain by smiling and dabbing on the apples of your cheeks and moving upward. i use a coral color (tipsy) so i can put on more than just the apples and i won't look like a clown.
- then to just the apples of your cheeks dab a tiny bit of of a really bright pink color to make them pop. i like nars blush in desire.
- on the top of your cheekbones dab a little bit of benefit's high beam to give the tops of your cheeks a little shimmer.
eyes:
- prime your eyelids with urban decay's eyeshadow primer potion. i use the 'original' color but if you want a little more shimmers there are other options. this is something aves and lynds swear by!
- line your eyes with make up for ever's aqua eye's in black.
- set the primer and eyeliner with laura mercier matte eye colour in buttercream.
- with your finger, apply benefit's creaseless cream shadow. i use 'flatter me'. i swear by this stuff. i've had make up artists comment on how well this stuff stays on. it's amazing.
- brush your lashes with mascara. this summer i have lash extensions so i'm not wearing mascara but if I was it would be my fave, yves saint laurent! yes, it's expensive but you wear mascara every day so you want the best!
- if you have unruley brows like i do, set with benefit's speed brow to keep them in place.
lips:
- benefit's silky-finish lipstick in 'nice knickers' provides the perfect amount of rosey color.
- top with gloass. i like benefit's ultra shines lip shine in nookie nookie.
- summer is a great time to experienment with a bold lip color. i'm loving nars 'schiap' for a real punch of color.
- the hunt for a good chapstick is never over. currently i'm loving weleda.
misc:
- wash. your. face. every night. seriously, every night. i've heard there's a weight watchers saying 'nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.' well 'you're never too tired to have clear skin.' same applies when working out. if you have to, use a facial wipe. i like non or lightly scented ones like yes to cucumbers.
- drink lots of water. especially after a late night out. if plain water is boring to you, add cucumber slices, lemon or limes wedges or get crazy and add some raspberries.
online resources:
- i love reading about beauty products and tips online. two of my favorite sites are into the gloss and refinery 29. into the gloss has this column called 'the top shelf' where they ask woman {a lot of magazine beauty editors} about their favorite products along with showing some great photos. it's like peaking into the coolest girl's medicine cabinets. refinery 29 beauty has the best slideshows that i love flipping through for some quick beauty tips and new products.
